   "Batteries & Energy Storage Technology" Reported Double Layer Capacitor Meeting.

British magazine, "Batteries & Energy Storage Technology" 2005 winter issue reported the conference, "The 14th International Seminar on Double Layer Capacitors" at Florida Deerfield Beach on last December, for five pages by the editor.

The Nanogate-capacitor by Power Systems is highlighted as "The height of the academic portion of the Seminar". However, the report says that Prof. Jim Zheng shot its performance figure down in flames with his calculations. And it was shame Michio Okamura was not there to protect his invention.



   JEOL and ACT Start Sample Distribution of the Nanogate Capacitor

According to JEOL website at following URL (Japanese only, including photos), they will start world's first sample distribution of the Nanogate capacitor, or in their new trade name, "EcoCache®" from February-March for market research.

Three types of samples are; small capacitor power supply module, coin cell, and large capacitor module. The specifications of the largest cell are; energy density 10 Wh/kg, withstand voltage 3.3 V, ESR 7.5 F, and the power density is calculated 2.4kW/kg.



   NIPPONIA Introduces Capacitor in Six Languages

   The 14th Capacitor Seminar Held at Florida

Well known annual meeting was opened at Deerfield Beach , Florida on December 6-8, 2004. According to the official list, attendees were 114, among them 19 from Japan , 18 were from other countries.

   Commendation by the Ministry of Environment for Anti-air pollution activity

Our chairman of the ECaSS Forum Preparatory Committee, Michio Okamura, was commended by the Ministry of Environment for the award of Anti-air pollution activity 2004, together with other 20 companies and persons.

The reason of the commendation: Originating ECaSS, which is effective to decrease CO2 emission and has already applied hybrid vehicles as well, those are significant contributions for Anti-air pollution activity.
The ceremony was taken place on November 29th at Toranomon Pastoral, Tokyo.

Comments by Okamura: I appreciate that the government has noticed the activities, although our output is still in the midway.



   "Automotive Engineering" features Ultracapacitors

In the September 2004 issue of "Automotive Engineering - international", there is a special 5-page article titled "Ultracapacitors charge ahead".

Honda FCX, fuel-cell and capacitor hybrid (several movies are available in the member's page of this website) is described in detail with pictures and data. Other application of capacitors to a transit bus with alternative hybrid storage system of Zebra batteries or Maxwell capacitors is explained.

For ultracapacitor cell, Maxwell ultracapacitors encased in a typical consumer battery size-D, and Epcos innovative stacked wound technology are introduced. Although the magazine is titled "international", these good articles are written with the limited views from the U. S.



   Power Systems Co., Displays ECaSS(R) and Nanogate Capacitors on CEATEC

"CEATEC JAPAN" is jointed and newly renamed from "COM-JAPAN" "Electronics Show", will be held at Makuhari Messe, near Tokyo on October 5 - 10.

Power Systems Co., will join this show at the one corner of the OMRON booth, and present demonstrations of ECaSS® capability for its quick charge and high power.

The Nanogate Capacitors will also be displayed in large square and small coin cell type. This is the world's first occasion for these capacitors ever shown in the public. However, detailed specifications and sample distribution will be reserved for later days.

   Power System Co., Moves on August 2nd

Born on October 1993, (too small to say "established") at one room of an apartment, Power Systems Co., grew up casting off its skin, or moved to the new site, Yokohama Kanazawa High-Tech Center provided by Yokohama City on 1996. However, the company became too large and moved to present small building accomodating two story factory in 2002.

Only two years have passed. Because of the expansion as already publicized, Power Systems Co., has to move again to a new building located at the following address:

4475 Ikebe-cho, Tsuzuki-ku, Yokohama, Japan

Phones, Faxes, mail-addresses of all personnel stay the same. They will start working proudly, at the new location on the 2nd of August.



   Dramatic Increase of Visitors and Members for our Website ...... Status Report

On 2002/8/31, (8/1 for Japanese pages) this website was opened, and we were afraid of the number of visitors who might read willingly such specialized, technical pages.

Now, we have been ranked unexpectedly high in many search engines and blessed with as many visitors as 600-1000 on each weekday, 300 each on weekend days, monthly averaging 18,000. Member registrations in total are about 3,000. The ratio of Japanese/English is about 80/20 on both visitors and members.

This is probably because of many capacitor related articles on papers and magazines, and TV programs. Production of capacitors is mandatory, though, building factories for production of capacitors has just been started.

   Updating Our Company Profile and Photo

Capacitor UPS, Capacitor Hybrid Trucks, Capacitor Hybrid Fuel Cell Vehicles and Capacitor Copiers, those are the real products or commodities in which ECaSS® principle has been applied. However, there came some reports that the personnel handling those products did not know the relations to either ECaSS® or Okamura Laboratory, Inc.

I don't blame them because they are in quite large organizations. Instead, a revision is made to our company profile, adding the names of ECaSS® group companies.

   Opposing Opinions and the Regulations of the Society

Provided a new invention, Nanogate Capacitor, is dramatic, there could be some inadvertent effects in the competing field such as batteries and capacitors. There may be some people who do not like me because of rising or falling stocks of JEOL although there is no real relation to me.

When I open up my address, telephone and mail in this website, besides police station and post office, I prepared somehow, as a skilled computer programmer and an ex-hacker. (What are the contents of "somehow"? It is confidential.)

However, after October 2, 2003, the debut of Nanogate Capacitor, in tens thousands in total of visits, letters, telephones, faxes and mails, there has been no one message of threatening etc. from anywhere in the world. I appreciate deeply for healthy minded people over the world.

We welcome your opinion even if that may be against us, or our theory. Post it to our bulletin board since this may wake us up. Also, there are some chances of inducing other posts and opinions.

   News Reporting Power Systems Joint Venture

Even though the press meeting was notified at 3 and held at 5 o'clock in the afternoon on April 26, in order to isolate effects with stock market. Also, President Carlos Ghosn's meeting of Nissan motor Co. was held at almost the same time. Thanks for the press who came to our assembly.

Articles that appeared and described the departure of our project, count 10 newspapers, five networks and two TVs.

At our meeting, there were 40minutes Q and A. The major topics were:
- How can this business connect to environmental issue?
- What is the major advantage of capacitor over battery?
- Could capacitor compete with lead acid battery?
- How much more, can Nanogate Capacitor be improved?

   Two Racing Ships ---- For World Energy Resources

Even if the idea is so good, it can provide only a limited benefit while it stays as a theory. Nevertheless, capacitor storage system is now changing it status. This year could be the first one for capacitor mass-production.

Advanced Capacitor Technologies Co., started on April 1, with the expectation of Nanogate Capacitor. On May, Power Systems will be capitalized to 20 times of previous size*, with a joint venture of Omron, Mitsui and Okamura Lab. to develop and produce ECaSS® including Nanogate Capacitor.

Two companies have been originally in the same ECaSS® group. Though, this will stimulate development and total business. With those healthy competitions, capacitor storage will be brushed up and popularized.



   "NIPPONIA" Describes "New Capacitors" in 14 Languages

An international magazine NIPPONIA by Heibon-sha provides special feature "Green Energy for the Future" in its recent version No. 28. In the second article next to the general aspects of green energy, it describes ECaSS® storage systems under the title of "New Capacitors to Change Energy Lifestyles" for two pages.

NIPPONIA is a quarterly magazine which introduces modern Japan to people all over the world, published in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese. Translation must have been difficult; however this is our first experience to have capacitor storage descriptions in so many languages.

   JEOL "Nanogate Capacitor" receives Grand Prize of NikkeiBP Technology Award

Nihon Keizai Shinbun, the largest financial newspaper in Japan reported this morning on March 12, that JEOL wins the Grand Prize of the 2004 NikkeiBP Technology Award among the technologies developed during 2003.

NikkeiBP Technology Awards referred to its 2003 description: Established in 1991, the aim of the award is to contribute to Japan's technological development by giving recognition to breakthrough technologies that lead to fundamental change in industry and in society.
Dr. Shoji Tanaka, Vice President of International Superconductivity Technology Center, chaired the screening committee representing the most notable academic and research organizations in Japan. Last year, the Grand Prize went to Toyota and Honda fuel cell vehicles.

The author congratulates JEOL researchers for their success and endeavor of having gone through the endless unknown field of science without reaching to any fruits for many years.

Now is the time for us to the next step, "mass-production of capacitors".

We have many visitors, facsimiles, mails, and telephone calls for investing, licensing, and purchasing the Nanogate Capacitors by JEOL. Some includes encouraging criticism for our slow movement.

However, now we are in the situations something like, at the time of invention of, such as an incandescent lamp. It must be necessary to build up at least one or two mass-production factories quickly to show the world that the Nanogate Capacitor is the real thing.

Many offers and proposal came not only from Japan but also from US, Europe, Asia, Oceania, and Africa. Right now, we have many ideas to cook our broth for production. After we have cooked the soup by our own factory and built up the production technology, we should like to supply products or license to outside of our family.

Owing to the significant activities of two companies in ECaSS® group, the Nanogate Capacitor by JEOL Ltd. and Capacitor Copier by Ricoh Co. Ltd, we had brilliant fruits of capacitor itself and a new field of applications in 2003.

However, especially for the Nanogate Capacitor, everybody is asking me about the price and delivery schedule. They are good questions and the answers are really necessary.

Now, I will stay and concentrate to the production issue for a couple of years rather than spending time for making speech or writing papers.
